Riley J. Shaw

Riley handles all aspects of pre-trial litigation in defending clients in state and federal courts across the country in premises liability, personal injury, and product liability matters. He serves on Tucker Ellis national counsel teams, including the motor vehicle litigation team defending a Fortune 300 company. Riley is known for his mastery of facts, creative legal research, and persuasive writing. He utilizes these skills in offensive and defensive discovery, as well as settlement negotiations. Riley drafts pleadings, conducts fact investigation and expert discovery, prepares dispositive and evidentiary motions, and negotiates resolution.

In addition to his mass tort and product liability practice, Riley counsels clients on creditors’ rights. In this practice, he creates strategy to assert leverage on defaulting entities with creditors’ bills, garnishment actions, and foreclosure proceedings. Riley proactively protects clients’ rights by seeking effective and practical solutions.

During law school, Riley assisted in preparing a Fourth Amendment appellate brief that was submitted to the U.S. Court of Appeals, Sixth Circuit while serving as an extern with the U.S. Attorney’s Office. He also served as a legal writing tutor for first-year law students.

As an undergraduate student, Riley won more than 100 matches for Cleveland State’s wrestling team as a heavyweight and qualified for the NCAA tournament three times, winning the league title twice. During his second year of law school, he served as the graduate assistant coach for the team. Balancing that role with the demands of law school helped him fine-tune his time management and organizational skills, which are integral to his law practice today.

In his free time, Riley enjoys an occasional jog, working on home renovations with his wife Anna, and spending time with their two sons and two dogs.
