Corine Corpora Presents to Cleveland-Akron Society of Financial Services Professionals on MEPs and PEPs

March 18, 2021

On March 17, Corine Corpora presented to the Cleveland-Akron Society of Financial Services Professionals. Corine discussed MEPs (Multiple Employer Plans) and PEPs (Pooled Employer Plans), which are intended to make it easier and less expensive for small business owners to provide retirement benefits to their employees. Corine’s presentation included an historical overview and an in-depth analysis of significant changes to the MEP rules made by the Departments of Labor and Treasury over the past two years, as well as the introduction of PEPs with the Setting Every Community Up for Retirement Enhancement Act of 2019 (the SECURE Act). Since PEPs went live in January 2021, Corine also advised the audience of financial planners, attorneys, accountants and insurance brokers of the fiduciary responsibilities that apply to “pooled plan providers” of PEPs.
