Jon W. Oebker
Jon Oebker is a business litigator with more than three decades of experience in state and federal courts.
A former prosecutor, Jon has handled more than 300 matters and argued 12 cases before the Supreme Court of Ohio. Since joining Tucker Ellis in 2008, he has represented regional and national companies in a wide variety of commercial disputes, serving on national litigation teams for Fortune 500 clients and acting as go-to counsel for complex matters across Ohio.
Jon’s government service informs his strategic approach to complex litigation. As an Assistant Attorney General, he represented the State of Ohio in federal death-penalty habeas corpus matters. As an Assistant Prosecutor, he focused on post-conviction litigation, including cases involving DNA and newly discovered evidence.
In private practice, he has been engaged by the Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys to author an Amicus brief in the Supreme Court of Ohio and was appointed by the Court to represent a criminal defendant in a potential landmark case with implications for criminal and appellate law.
Jon is deeply committed to pro bono service. His pro bono work includes securing a commutation for an Ohio death row inmate from Governor John Kasich one month prior to a scheduled execution, as well as two federal commutations for federal inmates from President Barack Obama.
Jon serves on the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Bar Association Judicial Selection Committee.
Jon grew up on a farm in Avon, Ohio, and currently resides in Brecksville, Ohio, with his wife, who is an Assistant Cuyahoga County Prosecutor. Their son Jack works and lives in Manhattan and their daughter Caroline is a special education teacher in Chicago. Outside of work, Jon is always up for a challenge, whether it be running marathons, playing golf, or rooting for Cleveland sports teams.
