Jonathan R. Cooper

Jonathan Cooper has spent most of his career as a trial lawyer. He has tried a variety of cases involving allegations of breach of contract, trademark infringement, breach of warranty, securities fraud, theft of trade secrets, and products liability to verdict or judgment. He enjoys serving in a variety of roles, including counselor, trial lawyer, national counsel, and member of a national trial team. He represents individuals, small companies, partnerships, and Fortune 100 companies in a variety of industries. With over 25 years of trial experience, he has appeared before state and federal courts in California, Colorado, Georgia, Florida, Indiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas and Wisconsin.

Early in his career, Jonathan tried everything from "fender benders" to landlord-tenant disputes. As time went by, the matters became more complicated: products liability cases, trade secret disputes, business disputes, and alleged securities fraud.
Jonathan looks at every engagement as essentially a problem to be solved. He knows that good solutions can come only from careful listening to clients, learning the parameters (cost, timing, resources, exposure, etc.), and—especially—understanding clients’ goals and how they define "success."

To Jonathan, gone are the days of lawyers and clients working separately toward a common goal. Client/lawyer partnerships are critical to efficiency and to maximize the chances of success. The fact is that one size does not fit all. Some cases can be managed with standardized pleadings and motions without diminishing the chances of success. Some cases are best handled or managed by younger lawyers. Some large groups of cases may be managed primarily by paralegals. Finally, there are some cases that must be defended using all available assets, leaving no stone unturned. The first challenge lies in separating one from the others, and that challenge is met only by a successful client/lawyer partnership.

Jonathan has completed his certification in Legal Process Improvement, an application of LEAN and Six Sigma concepts to the practice of law.

Jonathan lives by Lake Erie with his wife and son and dog Mr. Peabody. He is a former competitive triathlete. He still tries to run and ride as much as work and family allow. He is also a computer hobbyist and a very poor guitar player.
