Daniel L. Hopper
Daniel Hopper has more than two decades of experience in preparing and prosecuting patent applications in the mechanical engineering arts.
Dan has significant experience working closely with clients through all stages of the patent procurement process from patentability assessments to appeal briefs. He works with clients covering a wide range of sizes and needs, including Fortune 500 companies, universities, and independent inventors.
Dan’s Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering has allowed him to prepare and prosecute hundreds of patent applications in areas including vehicle occupant protection devices, such as air bags and seat belts, as well as electronic braking and vehicle vision systems; medical applications, such as orthopedic and bone fixation devices, cardiac valve and vertebral disc replacement devices, stents, cardiac ablation devices, and tissue scaffolds; polymer film applications for use in gas diffusion barriers and electronic components; electric cables; tunnel boring and mining equipment; consumer products, including dishwashers and refrigerators; wind turbine repair devices; residential furnace devices and systems; and power generation devices, including cooling systems. His patent experience includes both domestic and PCT applications and national-level prosecution, including Europe, China, and Canada; patentability searches and opinions; clearance opinions; and non-infringement/validity opinions. Dan has prosecuted more than 1,000 patents in the United States and works directly with foreign associates to prosecute patent applications in the U.S. and abroad.
In addition to his patent work, Dan is well versed in trademark searches, as well as prosecuting trademark applications. He has prepared, filed, and prosecuted trademark applications in the U.S. for both domestic clients and foreign associates.
Dan lives in Bay Village with his wife, daughter, and two Australian Shephard-mix puppies Alfie and Shelby (yes, from Peaky Blinders). In his spare time, he enjoys competing in ultramarathons across the country through varying terrain and elevations and taking his camper out with his family.
