Tucker Ellis Team Favorably Resolves Claim for Pro Bono Client Mid-Trial

August 2021

The Tucker Ellis team of John Lewis, Jennifer MeskoLex Ehrenschwender, and summer associate Amanda Spangler obtained a resolution for client Rammie Manley after three and a half days of trial in a Section 1983 civil rights action in the Northern District of Ohio. Mr. Manley originally filed his claim pro se in 2018, alleging that his Eighth Amendment rights were violated by correctional officers when he was injured while handcuffed during a prison escort. After his claims survived a summary judgment motion by the correctional officer defendants, the case was referred to Tucker Ellis through the Northern District of Ohio’s Pro Bono Program. (See ND Ohio LR 83.10.) The jury trial involved video evidence and witness testimony from more than a dozen witnesses, including medical experts and high-ranking prison supervisors. After the close of evidence, the parties resolved the claims.
