On April 14, John Slagter spoke at an Ohio State Bar Association (OSBA) live interactive webinar, “Introduction to Real Estate Practice.” The program covered the fundamentals of real estate practice, including residential real estate transactions, the drafting of real estate deeds, title law, landlord tenant law, entity selection in real estate transactions, and real estate litigation. Focusing on real estate litigation, John – who chairs the OSBA Real Estate CLE Committee and serves on the OSBA Real Estate Council – provided an overview of the common disputes encountered in real estate practice and ways to identify and address key issues that are important to understand when representing clients in those matters – including litigation relating to failure to disclose defects with property; construction and workmanship disputes; contractual disputes and specific performance; foreclosure actions; title disputes; real property tax challenges; and zoning appeals.
