Chelsea Smith practices in the areas of product liability defense and business litigation, including commercial and construction disputes.

She is experienced in various aspects of litigation, including drafting pleadings, conducting and defending depositions, drafting dispositive and evidentiary motions, and negotiating favorable settlements.

Chelsea is part of the Tucker Ellis team that serves as national counsel for a large appliance manufacturer in its dryer fire litigation. In this role, she manages product liability cases in federal and state courts throughout the country. Chelsea is responsible for responsive pleadings, fact and expert discovery, dispositive and evidentiary motions, and trial preparation.

Chelsea also defends class actions in a variety of areas, including consumer claims, warranty litigation, and product liability litigation.

A Cleveland native, Chelsea enjoys cooking, running, and exploring all that the city has to offer.

Representative Matters

  • Successfully defended appliance manufacturer against claims of product defect
  • Defended various manufacturers against product defect, negligence, failure to warn, and breach of warranty claims
  • Defended broker-dealer firm against claims of unsuitability and fraud in a FINRA arbitration
  • Successfully represented a broker-dealer against federal, state, and common law claims of fraud, unsuitability, breach of fiduciary duty, negligent misrepresentation, and conversion
  • Represented contractor in the presentation and defense of construction delay and interference claims involving the construction of a retirement home
  • Successfully defended contractor from allegations of improper installation of cladding materials
  • Represented homeowner in the presentation and defense of breach of contract and construction defect claims, resulting in settlement of all claims
  • Defended general contractors in payment and performance bond claims
