Tucker Ellis LLP is pleased to announce that Ying Chen has joined the firm as a technical specialist and legal interpreter/translator.

Ms. Chen will devote a significant portion of her time to intellectual property matters, assisting with patent prosecution and international filing, patent clearance search, patent licensing negotiation, invention disclosure, and patent drafting. She will use her ability to communicate fluently in Chinese and English both orally and in writing in other areas of law, as well, including mergers and acquisitions, artificial intelligence, private equity, and finance.

"Ying’s impressive legal knowledge and her fluency in both English and Chinese make her an invaluable asset to Tucker Ellis – not only in IP matters, but across the board," said Intellectual Property Department Chair Carlos Garritano. "She’s a great addition to our client teams that are sometimes affected by language challenges. Ying has a unique cultural understanding of both China and the United States, along with the personality to cut through those barriers to serve our clients that much better."

Ms. Chen holds a B.S. in material physics with a minor in law from Fudan University in China. She earned her M.S. in law at Northwestern Pritzker School of Law. She is currently preparing for both the U.S. Patent Bar and Chinese Bar exams.
