Tucker Ellis-Coached Cleveland Early College High School Wins Cleveland Mock Trial Competition

May 2019

Congratulations to Cleveland Early College High School (CECHS) for taking home first place in the Cleveland Mock Trial Competition. The Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association’s annual program provides Cleveland high school students the opportunity to prepare and present their best legal arguments in an exciting day of competition.

In addition to the school’s overall victory, CECHS student Sydney Cummings received the Best Witness award during the first trial, and student Miricle Harris received the Best Attorney award during the second trial. Karen Ross, Brandon Cox, and Carter Strang coached the team, along with Brandon Brown, Assistant Director of Law for the City of Cleveland and the first participant in the Tucker Ellis Pipeline Partnership to graduate from law school.

Coaching the mock trial team is just one aspect of the Tucker Ellis Pipeline Partnership with CECHS. Tucker Ellis attorneys also teach 3Rs — a law-based curriculum developed by the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association — at the school, and the firm provides paid summer legal internships at for CECHS graduates who participate in the CMBA Louis Stokes Scholars Program.
