Tucker Ellis Partner Carter Strang Installed as CMBA President; Karl Bekeny Sworn In as New Trustee

Tucker Ellis LLP is proud to announce that Partner Carter Strang has been installed as the President of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association (CMBA) for 2012-2013. In addition, Karl Bekeny, Counsel with Tucker Ellis, has been sworn in as one of six new CMBA Board Trustees for a three-year term ending in 2015. The CMBA installed its elected officers and new trustees at its Annual Meeting on June 15.

An active member of the CMBA, Carter Strang was the 2010 CMBA Volunteer of the Year, and he founded and chaired the committee for the CMBA’s Green Initiative. He co-authored the CMBA’s award-winning 3Rs curriculum and served as 3Rs committee chair. At Tucker Ellis, Mr. Strang founded the firm’s Pipeline Diversity Program, and coordinates its partnership with Cleveland Early College High School. He was instrumental in the establishment of Tucker Ellis’s Green Initiative Committee which received the CMBA’s Green Innovation Award in 2010. Tucker Ellis received the inaugural 2012 CMBA Trailblazer Award for its Cleveland diversity and inclusion efforts.

Mr. Strang has handled a broad range of matters in both state and federal courts with a primary focus on environmental, mass tort, and product liability litigation. He is listed in the 2012 Top Rated Lawyers Guide to Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Law and is Past President of the Federal Bar Association, Northern District of Ohio Chapter (FBA-NDOC). Mr. Strang received his undergraduate degree and his Master of Education from Kent State University. He received his J.D. from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law.

Karl Bekeny is an active member of the Cleveland community, working with CMBA’s Justice for All Committee and Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts. Mr. Bekeny has handled trials and appeals on a wide array of issues in state and federal courts, and practices extensively in the areas of commercial litigation and product liability defense. He also represents foreign and domestic insurers in insurance coverage litigation involving policies ranging from director and officer liability to food contamination. Mr. Bekeny received his undergraduate degree magna cum laude from The College of Wooster where he was Phi Beta Kappa. He received his J.D. cum laude from the University of Wisconsin.
