December 10, 2021

On December 9 in a virtual event, The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland celebrated 116 years of powerful work at its Annual Meeting. Board Chair Rita Maimbourg addressed attendees, exploring the challenges presented by the pandemic, racism, and the loss of rural resources and highlighting important growth in Legal Aid’s focus toward building in new directions to best serve the community’s changing needs. To close the meeting, she introduced United States Attorney General Merrick Garland who spoke from the United States Department of Justice. Just this past month, Attorney General Garland announced the restoration of a standalone office for “Access to Justice” within the department dedicated to improving the federal government’s understanding of and capacity to address the most urgent legal needs of communities across America.
