Sixty-five years ago Slick Willie Sutton, a career criminal who spent half his life incarcerated despite three successful escapes, reportedly told a newspaperman that the reason he robbed banks was, “Because that’s where the money is.” The U.S. Supreme Court heard oral argument Oct. 4 in Shaw v. United States (No. 15-5991) to resolve the elements of the first clause of the bank fraud statute, 18 U.S.C.A. § 1344, concerning intent. Read the article here.
