December 2008

Cleveland, Ohio (December 8, 2008) – Carter Strang, a partner with Tucker Ellis & West LLP, has taken on leadership roles with key organizations. He has been named President-Elect of the Federal Bar Association, Northern District of Ohio Chapter, which advances the science of jurisprudence and promotes the welfare, interests, education, and professional growth and development of the members of the Federal legal profession.

Mr. Strang is serving his second year as Chair of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association's 3Rs Committee, which was recently honored with the Ohio State Bar Foundation's Outstanding Program Award. 3Rs places some 450 attorneys in Cleveland and East Cleveland public schools where they teach Constitutional rights, responsibilities and realities, and provide career counseling to over 3,000 students. Mr. Strang was also named Chair of the CMBA’s newly created Green Initiative Committee, which strives to make more conscious decisions with regard to the environment.

Carter, a TEW Diversity Committee member, is coordinator of TEW’s “pipeline initiatives”, which focus on increasing the number of minorities practicing law. He created and coordinates a partnership between TEW and Cleveland Municipal School District’s John Hay High School Early College Program. TEW provided thirty-one 3Rs teachers, coached its mock trial team to the Cleveland Mock Trial Championship, and provides paid summer internships at the firm for two John Hay Early College students.

“I see a need for businesses in our community to serve as leaders in working with our schools and in other initiatives that benefit the quality of life for everyone in Northeastern Ohio,” said Strang. “Tucker Ellis & West was founded with a basic tenet of commitment to community, and the firm is actively supporting my efforts and those of the organizations with which I’m involved.”

Carter received his law degree from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law (’84), where he is currently a member of the Visiting Committee, a Life Member of the Alumni Association, and a member of it’s Board of Trustees and Co-chair of its Membership Committee. He also sponsors the Professor Joel Finer Award.

A graduate of Kent Roosevelt High School (’69) and Kent State (M.Ed., ’79 and B.S. ’73), Carter serves as a member of the KSU Honors College Board of Advisors, is a Life Member of the Alumni Association, a member of the Honors College Alumni Association, and a sponsor of KSU awards, which are named after his parents, Leo and Bettie Strang, both of whom were employed at KSU.

Carter is a Shaker Heights resident and former Shaker Heights High School teacher and coach ('74-'83).
