TEW Program Wins Pillar Partnership Spotlight
May 2010
Los Angeles, California (May 14, 2010) - Tucker Ellis & West's (“TEW”) Law Pipeline Partnership with Abraham Lincoln High School has won the Pillar Partnership Spotlight Award. The Abraham Lincoln High School Partnership is part of TEW's Pipeline Diversity Program, with a goal of increasing the number of urban and minority students considering a career in the law.
The five judge panel that selected TEW included business members of the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce and members of Los Angeles Unified School District. The panel praised TEW's efforts and ability to produce an impactful program in a relatively short span of time. These efforts have sparked student interest and have resulted in an appreciable jump in the number of students who are now interested in participating on the school's debate team - a proven path to college. “Introducing students to our legal system and showing them how they can have positive input really makes a difference in our communities,” said Leslie Criswell, a partner at Tucker Ellis & West.
Pillar is a program through the Los Angeles area Chamber of Commerce and the Los Angeles Unified School District, which works with businesses to improve education and help develop Los Angeles' future workforce. TEW was selected based on the quality and level of involvement between the firm and Abraham Lincoln High School. This was TEW's first year working with the school, which had never had any program like this before. The school will receive a monetary award to help fund educational activities.
Tucker Ellis & West is a full service law firm with over 150 attorneys, with offices in Cleveland, Columbus, Denver, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. Through its Pipeline Diversity Program, TEW is proud to have created partnerships with schools in all of these cities.
