Jonathan Cooper Featured in LegalBizDev Blog on LPM Certification

September 2016

In its September 14 blog post, Legal Business Development and Project Management (LegalBizDev) featured Jonathan Cooper in “Case Study: LPM Certification at Tucker Ellis.” The blog post describes the group’s legal project management (LPM) certification program, launched in 2010, as “the first to award certification” in the discipline and “the most demanding” of the other certifications that have since been introduced. The post focuses on Jonathan, who in 2012 became a Certified Legal Project Manager through the program, and his successes in sharing with other Tucker Ellis attorneys the valuable tools he gained through the program.

“The most challenging part was attempting to ‘preach the gospel’ of project management to other practice groups within the firm,” Jonathan explained. “It was not immediately obvious that project management would succeed because it’s not easy to get the typical lawyer to change the way in which he or she does things… It remains very hard for some lawyers to give up on the idea that every case is unique and that every rock needs to be turned over in a particular case, even though we’ve already repeatedly turned over that rock in other cases.”
