Thomas W. Coffey

Thomas W. Coffey is Senior Counsel in the Cleveland office of Tucker Ellis & West LLP. With more than 20 years of practice, Tom is a bankruptcy lawyer who focuses his practice on bankruptcy reorganizations and insolvency matters. He represents debtors, creditors, committees, and trustees in Chapter 11 and Chapter 7 bankruptcy cases.

Tom is a former bankruptcy trustee and was a member of the adjunct faculty at the University of Cincinnati College of Law where he taught a number of classes in commercial law and was Recipient of the Adjunct Faculty Teaching Excellence Award in 2001. Tom received his undergraduate degree in Music from the University of Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music, and prior to his legal career, he was a high school band director.

Tom authored “The Small but Essential Handbook of Basic Bankruptcy Law,” a guide to the difficult and complex process of bankruptcy, published by Casemaker. He has also published articles in law journals and legal texts and has participated as a faculty member in a number of continuing legal education seminars. His published work has been cited as authority by state and federal courts including the U.S. Third Circuit Court of Appeals. Tom is also the author of several confirmed plans of reorganization in Chapter 11 cases. He is a member of the Ohio State and American Bar Associations and was recently appointed by Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson to a second term as a member of the Cleveland Landmarks Commission. Tom is a proud resident of Cleveland’s Tremont neighborhood, and can be found practicing the piano when he is not practicing law.
