
Irene M. MacDougall is a Partner in the Cleveland office of Tucker Ellis & West LLP. With over twenty years experience in financial transactions, real estate and corporate law, Irene has significant depth in the areas of commercial and real estate lending transactions, health care lending, real estate and development transactions, restructurings and commercial workouts, contract negotiations, and other issues relevant to closely held businesses, financing, and real estate.
Irene has been actively involved in structuring, documenting and closing significant complex transactions with multiple layers of public and private financing, representing various parties in the transaction. She has also represented lenders in complex commercial and health care transactions, both at inception and in restructuring, collection and work-out of such transactions. Her real estate background, which began in law school when she worked for a title company, has proven extremely helpful in those transactions as well as the more traditional real estate development and related issues she routinely handles. Her long-standing closely held corporate clients not only value her legal analysis but look to her for counseling in business matters.
Irene was named a national 2011 Impact Award winner by the Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) Network. One of only four national award winners, Irene’s work was honored in the category of economic improvement. She has been a guest speaker for numerous organizations, including the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association’s Real Estate Law Institute, (CREW), the National Business Institute, and the Ohio State Bar Association.
Irene’s family, comprised of spouse, Michael J. Esson and four children, including a set of triplets, has merely honed her unique ability to efficiently arrive at practical solutions to her clients’ issues. Achieving results and working with her clients as a team give her great satisfaction and keep the practice of law fun and exciting. Her family’s numerous pets and varying extra-curricular activities in theater, dance, film, equestrian competitions, and travel keep life in general fun and exciting.
