
Alec Boyd is Counsel in the San Francisco office of Tucker Ellis & West LLP. He is a litigator who practices primarily in the area of insurance coverage and bad faith, with an emphasis on the representation of insurers in connection with claims made under D&O, E&O, LPL, and EPL insurance policies. Alec has represented insurers in connection with securities fraud, shareholder derivative, consumer class action and employment claims against investment banks, mutual fund companies, high technology companies, diversified conglomerates, and other Fortune 500 corporations and their management, including the IPO Allocation Litigaton, WorldCom, options backdating, and subprime mortgage claims.
Alec has also defended attorneys and other professionals in malpractice actions, as well as represented businesses in general litigation and employment disputes. His experience includes all aspects of civil litigation from preliminary evaluation through appeal. While Alec is an active member of the California and Oregon State Bars, he has been called upon to analyze issues under the laws of all 50 states. His litigation experience includes actions venued in Louisianna, Rhode Island, Hawai'i, Texas, and Washington.
Alec has also written articles on professional liability and insurance coverage for various legal publications, served as a monthly columnist for the San Francisco and Los Angeles Daily Journal legal newspapers, and served on the Advisory Board for the practice guide California Causes of Action. Alec lectures on insurance coverage, professional liability, complex class actions and legal ethics at the invitation of professional organizations and legal publishers.
Alec grew up in Eugene, where he graduated from the University of Oregon with degrees in Rhetoric and Political Science. While at Oregon, he competed in academic debates and was named the second best speaker at the Cross-Examination Debate Association National Championships held at the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1988. Alec is still a rabid fan of his college football team. Besides spending his free time with his wife and young son, Alec enjoys skiing, camping, reading, and collecting the art of Chiura Obata (yes, that was Alec on PBS' Antiques Roadshow with the Obata woodblock prints of Yosemite).
